Rolling Door and Fire Protection Solutions for Data Centers

In data center design, reliable, secure closures are non-negotiable. Your doors must fulfill three critical roles: sealing the building envelope for environmental control, providing robust fire protection, and ensuring dependable security. Our expertly engineered rolling doors don't just meet compliance standards—they surpass them, ensuring reliable, high-performance protection for your most sensitive infrastructure.

Maximize Efficiency with Low U-Factor Insulated Doors

Cooling your sensitive IT equipment is a must, but it’s expensive—the National Renewable Energy Laboratory reports that cooling can represent as much as 40% of a data center's total utility costs.

Our Thermiser Max® – Low U Door is engineered for the most demanding environments, making it the ideal choice for upper-floor loading bays and any opening where thermal efficiency is needed. With an exceptionally low U-factor of 0.532, it sets a new standard in energy efficiency.

These energy-efficient data center doors are engineered to minimize heat transfer:

  • A mineral wool-insulated curtain
  • Advanced perimeter seals
  • Strategic thermal breaks

Together, these components work to maintain stable indoor temperatures, helping to protect servers and equipment from overheating. The Thermiser Max – Low U Door also offers sound attenuation (with an available Sound Transmission Rating of 27*) and can be labeled to meet strict energy codes like ASHRAE 90.1, IECC 2021, and California’s Title 24.

Alarm-Activated Rolling Fire Doors for Data Pods

The Rolling Fire Door with the AlarmGard® Motor and SmokeShield® package is a precision-engineered solution for reliable fire and smoke protection.

When a fire alarm is triggered or power is unexpectedly lost within a data pod, the integrated system activates. The fire door automatically closes, sealing the pod to protect critical infrastructure and slow the spread of fire and smoke, giving first responders time to act. With a fail-safe design and automatic reset, your doors adapt to emergencies and get you back to normal operation quickly once the alarm is cleared or power is restored.

SmokeShield Elevator Smoke Curtain

Smoke and Fire Protection for Elevator Shafts

A fire’s "chimney effect" causes hot air and smoke to rise rapidly through elevator shafts, accelerating the fire's spread and hindering evacuations. The SmokeShield® Elevator Smoke Curtain is designed to stop this.

This curtain seals and compartmentalizes the elevator opening. Once the elevator cycles, the SmokeShield system deploys the smoke curtain, and our GuideLock™ technology forms a tight barrier across the opening. Even if the hoistway is opened for emergency use, the system ensures protection. A manual override allows building occupants or firefighters to clear the hoistway for safety or access.

Selecting the Right Door for Your Data Center

A modern data center door is more than just an entry point—it's a critical design element that provides fire and smoke mitigation, climate control, and security. Consider these features to ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • High-Cycle Durability: Look for a door with a springless design. Our high-performance rolling doors can be rated for over a million cycles, drastically extending operational life and minimizing downtime for maintenance.
  • Wind Load and Seismic Compliance: In areas prone to extreme weather or seismic activity, a door's structural integrity is non-negotiable. Our doors are designed to handle a full spectrum of wind load requirements, including Miami-Dade and impact-resistant designs, and can be evaluated for ASCE 7-05 seismic compliance.
  • Dependable Seals: Rolling doors are available with an insulated bottom bar and a foam seal that conforms to floor irregularities, ensuring a reliable fit for enhanced energy efficiency.
  • Flexible Installation: Steel doors can be installed on the face of a wall or between jambs, making them compatible with common construction types, including masonry, structural steel, and drywall.
  • Aesthetics and Customization: Functionality doesn't mean sacrificing design. You can choose from more than 180 powder-coated colors, plus extra-durable finishes, giving you full control over the operation method and design to reflect your facility’s vision.
