The fire door automatically closes, sealing the pod to protect critical infrastructure and slow the spread of fire and smoke, giving first responders time to act. Smoke and Fire Protection for Elevator Shafts
A fire’s "chimney effect" causes hot air and smoke to rise rapidly through elevator shafts, accelerating the fire's spread and hindering evacuations. The SmokeShield® Elevator Smoke Curtain is designed to stop this.
This curtain seals and compartmentalizes the elevator opening. Once the elevator cycles, the SmokeShield system deploys the smoke curtain, and our GuideLock™ technology forms a tight barrier across the opening. Even if the hoistway is opened for emergency use, the system ensures protection. A manual override allows building occupants or firefighters to clear the hoistway for safety or access.
