Meet Meghan Joseph
Title: Architectural Product Representative for Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi
How she describes her role: I assist architects with finding the best products for each project. I try to take some of the burden off my architects by helping mold the specification and making sure the products used fit not only the requirements, but also the budget. My architects know when they call me they'll always get a quick, reliable, and honest response. Building lasting relationships is one of the most rewarding aspects of being an architectural representative.
Tenure at CornellCookson: I’ve been at CornellCookson six months. Previously, I spent the majority of my career in architectural precast, steel framing, and more recently, fenestrations. Knowing the building codes has helped me tremendously in the Florida and coastal southeastern region as we have some of the most demanding requirements globally.
When I was deciding my next career path, I had many options, however, my career at CornellCookson was an easy decision. Everyone within the company was overly knowledgeable and friendly. I’m yet to hear anyone speak poorly of us, including customers, and even a main competitor whom I had interviewed with previously. If the pandemic did anything positive for me, it was landing me with an amazing company. For that I’m grateful.
Most memorable/favorite project: A firm I wanted to build a relationship with responded to an email I sent inquiring about a high school in the Miami, Florida area. It was an in-depth project with a lot of custom work. The more I spoke to the architect, the more potential the project had. It was very intricate - every door was different. It was the most fulfilling project I’ve worked on so far.
On her career growth: I’ve been in construction for 20 years. I started out as a project manager and grew into the role of an architectural representative after learning the industry. I have vast knowledge of what goes into a project from beginning to end. My dad was a contractor, so I was basically raised on a job site, and I love it. I take a few days off each year to go to middle schools to talk to young women about getting into engineering and construction industries. Although I am formally educated in biochemistry, my love for the building industry is unfaltering.
If Meghan could do another job for just one day: I don’t know that there’d be another role I’d want. I really enjoy what I do!
Last book read: “The Order of Time” by Carlo Rovelli. I’m a theoretical quantum physics nerd.
Words of advice for people in industry: Honesty is the best attribute you could provide to your clients, coworkers, and industry. Sometimes people try to fluff their words or say things that aren’t quite true. Honesty and transparency are two of the best things one human can give to another human. Period.
Favorite desk tchotchke: My coffee mug that says “female forever.” My daughters gave it to me for Mother’s day with a letter saying how proud they are to have me for a mom.
Hobbies: Weightlifting, trap shooting, archery, going to the gym, and philanthropy endeavors.
Outside of work, Meghan likes to: Hang out with her kids; she’s a single mom of three girls who are 12, 15, and 19. She enjoys giving back to her community and has been a keynote speaker at events for at-risk youth, domestic violence sessions, and women's empowerment seminars. Meghan has also served as a board member for several non-profits over the years. She's working on her first memoir when she's not on the beach in sunny Florida.
